Experience

Ms. Benita Gordon began her career as a substitute teacher and teacher's aide at Even Start working with special need students for the Bessemer City School District.  She also worked as a part-time  secretary at the Central Office.  Gordon isentering into her 20th year as the physical education teacher at Greenwood Elementary School.  She also has 10 years of experience coaching girls' basketball that includes: AAU, Middle School, and High School Varsity.



Bio

Ms. Benita Gordon is a product of the Bessemer School System. She graduated from Jess Lanier High School in 1996. Gordon graduated Magna Cum from Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina with her Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. Coach Gordon later received her Masters of Education in Physical Education from Alabama Sate University. She recently completed her Post Masters Certification in Instructional Leadership from the Univeristy of Alabama at Birmingham. Gordon in entering her 20th year of teaching physical education at Greenwood School.

She loves educating and mentoring students to become future leaders.  Her goal is to help students identify what they love about exercise, set goals for healthy eating, implement life skills for them and their families, and fully understand the benefits of being a physically educated person.

Benita Gordon is District Four Representative for the Alabama Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Board of Directors.  She is Bessemer City School District's 2019-2020 Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Gordon is a National Board Certified Teacher Candidate.   She was also a recipient of Walmart's Teacher of the Year and Who's Who Among Teachers.  Benita Gordon is the site coordinator for the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge, HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) Teacher, and Fuel to Play 60.
